Brain supplements are just one name for “smart drugs,” and a lot has happened since 1972 when Romanian psychologist and chemist Corneliu E. Giurgea came up with the term nootropic. Wikipedia states that one of the most controversial terms among researchers is nootropics. What was Dr. Giurea thinking when he thought brain supplements, nootropics, or smart drugs? I can assure you he didn’t want to hurt us.
Smart drugs are intended as cognitive enhancers. The sole purpose is to enhance memory, creativity, and motivation. However, with the initial conception of the idea of a smart drug not being toxic, there is a lot of controversy as to whether or not there would be a “smart” drug even if there were one.
A Nootropic By Definition
A nootropic is meant to enhance memory and learning, increase efficacy, enhance the resistance of learned behaviors while having an extremely low toxicity. (that’s leaving out some details, see Wikipedia; Corneliu E. Giurgea reference “nootropic characteristics.”) For this reason, there is no nootropic available yet.
First off, I would recommend reading the labels for any drug before trying it. Always good practice. If you get messed up or sick, hospitalized, or miserable for up to 12 hours, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Brain Supplements – The Problem
First off, there is no such thing as a nootropic. In fact, the person who invented that term stated that ideally, nootropics would have an extremely low toxicity. The majority of the drugs on the open market right now that are called “smart drugs” or nootropics are not very smart at all.
Armodafinil – Modafinil – Nuvigil
Armodafinil, Modafinil, and Nuvigil basically the same thing. They are in a class of drugs called eugeroics. I point this out so that you will read the label on Armodafinil first. I am certain that you will find it potentially life-threatening. For that reason, it cannot be classified as an extremely low toxicity, therefore it is not a nootropic.
Research on Armodafinil Side Effects
If you read the FDA label on Armodafinil, you will find that halfway down the first page that there is a full prescribing information. In the contents section, look under section number five. You should see the warnings and precautions section. If you will notice, it isn’t describing a low toxicity. On the contrary, Armodafinil is dangerous!
Here is What Is Described
- Serious rash, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome,
- Angioedema and anaphylaxis reactions
- Multi-organ hypersensitivity
- Persistent sleepiness
- Psychiatric symptoms
- Effects on ability to drive and use machinery
- Cardiovascular events
Scroll down further and read the cardiovascular events section. There you will find mentions of cardiovascular adverse reactions, chest pain, palpitations, dyspnea, transient ischemic T-wave changes on ECG, and observations of three subjects in association with mitral valve prolapse. At that point, these aren’t side effects; they are health risks.
Armodafinil In-Depth Study
SMART DRUG? THAT’S POSSIBLE?
I have done a lot of research on the topic of Armodafinil taken as a smart drug. Hopefully, my research will help people to decide whether the two words “smart” and “drug” belong together.
What is Armodafinil?
Armodafinil is a powerful brain supplement that is gaining in popularity. This is because of powerful effects on concentration, productivity, and cognition. When taken as prescribed by a doctor, Armodafinil is a wakefulness-promoting agent. Likewise, when taken correctly, Armodafinil is used to treat sleep apnea, narcolepsy, sleep work disorder, and jet lag. However, there is a flood of reports and blogs online lately, that have users entertaining a more straightforward approach.
Armodafinil – 12 Hour Power
People are reporting that Armodafinil helps with many of the things in life that could get in our way or come against us. As a result, the drug is very appealing to anyone struggling through their goals. The effects people report make Armodafinil hard to argue with, leaving curious people defenseless.
The Good – the bad – and – the ugly
The facts are hard to omit. Reports made by Military Medicineand numerous random users online of this drugs nootropic effects can be counted as plausible evidence that it does work. However, if you decide to try brain supplements anyway after soaking all of this information in, you may experience negative side effects.
Relatively no mentions of the long-term effects of Armodafinil regarding negative or positive reports are online. But in the same likeness, from the proof we have so far about what this fact is worth in weight, it isn’t much. Long-term says nothing for what it means to us, because some effects have taken more than 20 years to show up. (Asbestos for example)
Are brain supplements right
Before I attempt to give an honest opinion on this topic, I have to point out that there are conditions, outside forces, ideas, and circumstances in this life that can play very unfairly with people at times. If you have issues, self-medication is probably not what you want.
There is a name for experimenting with drugs when known adverse side effects are possible. Mine is why? Some call it crazy. Whatever be the case may be, just use your best judgment. Nevertheless, regarding brain supplements… there is no such thing. Any gamble or crutch that could affect our life, sanity, health, or overall well-being, can’t be smart. In conclusion, we have one life to live. Why chance it for a pill?
Who could ignore dangers, fears, and the law, and still gamble with their life? In the event that you could, it would be a cakewalk. One could easily see why a smart drug might be appealing to someone. The importance of advancements in medicine prove has proven that new drugs will always test us. We will just have to toughen up.
Finally, medicine is known to help people and save lives. Without it, we are defenseless and unable to combat certain health problems. Hence, with cures found, I am convinced that pharmacology is here to stay and detrimental to our purpose. However, differences between taking prescribed medication and taking brain supplements are different things altogether.
